De Anza College: Media & Learning Center

The Media & Learning Center is the second LEED Platinum building at De Anza after the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies. Key features include a buoyancy-driven air circulation system that uses chilled and heated water located in the air intake shafts and under the floors to circulate air, and louvers in the atrium to exhaust the air; a design that minimizes electricity consumption by using daylight from the central skylight and southern and northern windows, and controls to dim or turn off lights next to windows during the day; heat absorption tubes to provide heated water to the building's air circulation and hot water systems and to heat the hydronic piping in the atrium floor during cooler weather; and roof-top photovoltaics for power generation to offset purchased PG&E power.

De Anza College: G Building

The G Building Project consisted of selective interior and exterior renovation. Work included repairing the concrete structure; furnishing and installing a metal roofing system; and removing the existing stucco finish with asbestos-containing mastic underlayment and replacing it with a new plaster system. Replacements also included interior floor finishes, door hardware, window coverings and damaged ceiling tiles. Restroom renovations included replacing ceramic tile, new toilet accessories and paint. All interior and exterior canopies were painted.

Foothill College: Central Campus Site Improvements

The newly renovated courtyard next to the Biology Division office includes a diverse array of planting and a new concrete pond filled with aquatic plants. The new pond replaces the old pond, which was a safety hazard. The pond is used in biology classes as part of the academic program to teach students about the aquatic ecology. The courtyard surrounding the pond allows disabled access to the pond. It includes additional bench seating to promote collaboration and a memorial ginkgo tree.

De Anza College: Stadium and Track

The new Stadium Project was designed and built to provide an all-weather multipurpose football/soccer field and to provide a nine-lane synthetic track and adjacent natural grass areas for a full complement of NCAA track and field events. Those include the full range of throwing events (javelin, discus, shot put, and hammer throw), a full range of running events (sprints, distances and steeple chase), and a full range of jumping events (high jump, long jump, and pole vault).

The cost of power is offset by operating the photovoltaics in Lots A & B. The savings equate to approximately $300,000 per year. The estimated rebate the college will receive from PG&E for the established five-year term is $1.6 million.
